Michigan
Mid may my boyfriend and I, headed nearly 7 hours away from home by car to Michigan where we would then take a jet to the island where our cabin was. The ride there was pretty nice and the most traffic we got was in Chicago. Once we got into Michigan we got clear roads and some really nice scenery with lots of pine tall trees as you can see above. Once we arrived at the airport we jumped on a small jet plane with about 5 others and began our 20min flight to the island. It was peaceful up there overlooking all of the water and island ahead of us. It felt surreal that after about a month of plannning here we were. This was all new to us so we didn't know what to except, everything was new and exciting.
Once we arrived on the island we got into the small shuttle bus I had arranged to pick us up and take us to the cabin. We were greeted by the comforting image of this place and a peace of mind that we had finally made it after everything, we were finally here. We dropped our bags and headed outside to explore what would be our backyard/surrounding for a couple of days.
Staying here with no wifi, or service in the middle of nowhere in another state at first struck fear in me but later became a good feeling to know that I could not get in touch with anyone nor could they and I didn't have to worry about anything but being present. Sometimes its just nice to get away and this place made that possible because even if I wanted to I could not get in touch with anyone. I could not scroll through my phone as a past time.
I had just finished finals and technically finished my first year of being at this college I transferred to. So I was finally able to relax and not think about homework or projects or deadlines.
Overall somethings I learned from this trip are: Not to dwell on the little things that don't go as planned, everything is a learning experience and just because the first time doesnt go as well as you'd like doesn't mean you can't try and again and make it better with the knowledge and experience you have from the first time. It was a beautiful and surreal place. Where we ate oatmeal and watched VCR movies, listened to the radio, played checkers and woke up to beautiful views of the lake with birds, the creek and leaves as the wind hit them being the only noise.
Nonetheless, take time to be present and be grateful for the process even if you arent where you want to be exaclty enjoy the journey.
Thanks for reading!
